Practice Description

I believe we all have an inner awareness of our truth, but through life experiences and socialization, that truth sometimes becomes hidden or hard to access. Given a supportive environment, most people can access a deep awareness and create a level of consciousness that allows for profound change or meaning. Much of my work focuses on fostering a relationship with the client that facilitates an awareness of what is, and then moving from that place of awareness towards a more conscious, meaningful way of being.

My approach is wholistic and integrating, exploring the experience of both mind and body. It is always an honor to hold space and be witness to a client’s unfolding.Although trained in the traditional model of counseling, I continue to be inspired to explore non-traditional modes of psychological growth and well being. I have extensive training and certification in Integrative Breathwork, and facilitate Integrative Breathwork workshops in Austin. I have certification as an acu-detox specialist and use this modality with addiction. I have additional training in Somatic Experiencing, which is woven into all the work that I do. I specialize in working with couples, adults and adolescents who are in the transformational process, and have over10 years experience working with the HIV community. I facilitate a weekly HIV support group with Wright House Wellness Center.

I have been an LPC supervisor for about 8 years, and offer individual and group supervision for LPC interns working at Sol Community Counseling and at other supervision sites. I do not see clients through Sol. For more information about me and my services, see www.karencounseling.com
